【趣味英文】pigheaded 是說別人是豬頭嗎？
大家身邊有沒有很固執、不知變通的人呢？雖然有時候堅持自己的觀點是好事情，但太過固執的話真的會很難溝通呢！今天我們就來學習如何描述這樣的人吧！
固執、不知變通的說法
◎ stubborn
我們可以直接用 stubborn 來表示「固執的、頑固的」，那要更生動一點，也可以說 be as stubborn as a mule，字面上是「像頭驢子一樣頑固」，其實就是形容人「非常頑固」喔！
Oscar can be really stubborn once he’s made up his mind. Don’t try to argue with him.（Oscar 一旦下定決心會非常頑固。別試著和他爭論。）
It’s inevitable that old people can be as stubborn as a mule. They might firmly believe in things that have helped them get through ups and downs in life.（老人家難免會很頑固。他們可能會堅信那些幫助他們度過人生大風大浪的事情。）
◎ obstinate
基本上 stubborn 也可以用 obstinate 替換，意思也是 「固執的、頑固的」。那這個字有些人可能不確定怎麼發音，可以參考字典的發音喔！
Margaret was the most obstinate woman I’ve ever met.（Margaret 是我遇過最頑固的女人。）
◎ inflexible
有些人比較死腦筋，無法接受不同的觀點，這時候就可以用 inflexible「不知變通的」來形容喔！
Some of Steve Job’s employees found him inflexible, but you can say he was just adamant about his dreams and principles.（有些賈伯斯的員工覺得他不知變通，但你可以說他只是堅持自己的夢想和原則。）
那相對的，比較能靈活思考的人我們就可以用 flexible「可變通的」表示。
Clearly, there’s a need for a more flexible approach to education so that students can better adapt to the ever-changing world.（顯然地，有必要採取更靈活的教育方法，學生才更能適應不斷變化的世界。）
◎ pigheaded
大家有看過鬼滅之刃頭戴豬頭面具的嘴平伊之助嗎？有沒有覺得他很頑固又不服輸呢？其實英文也可以用 pigheaded 來表示「固執的；頑固的」，想想嘴平伊之助的豬頭，就更好記了！
Could you knock some sense into this pigheaded man?（你能不能和這個頑固的人講講理？）
◎ dig one’s heels in
那英文中也有能片語能表示某人固執、不知變通，像是 dig one’s heels in 這個片語，字面上是「把腳跟卡進地上」，意思也就是「某人非常固執」。
The salesperson dug her heels in and would not lower the price. What should we do?（這名銷售業務打死不降價。我們該怎麼辦？）
◎ be like talking to a brick wall
我們中文有「對牛彈琴」這個成語，用來表示對不講道理的人說話，那英文也有類似的片語，be like talking to a brick wall 字面上是「像是和磚牆講話」，就是在說對方不講道理，不聽你說的話。
If I were you, I wouldn’t waste my breath pointing out his mistakes. It’s like talking to a brick wall.（如果我是你，我不會白費唇舌指出他的錯誤。他根本不會聽你的話，）
